Husqvarna MADSAW Keeps Operators Safe From Shock
Husqvarna has launched a new type of professional pole saw, the 525DEPS MADSAW. MAD, or Minimal Approach Distances, is an OSHA standard for electric power generation, transmission, and distribution (OSHA 1910.269). The Husqvarna MADSAW dielectric pole saw is the first and only gas-powered pole saw to be able to meet that standard, keeping Pros safe against electric shock.
Husqvarna Speaks on the 525DEPS Pole Saw
Knowing the constraints of currently available hydraulic-powered or manual insulated pole saws, it was clear that innovation was needed to boost productivity while safely working around power lines. The MADSAW was designed to enhance versatility and maneuverability for the user, and we’re confident that this new innovation has the potential to revolutionize the way utility arborists perform their day-to-day work.

What’s the Big Deal?
The Husqvarna MADSAW is a dielectric pole saw. That means that it can resist transmitting electric force through conduction. This insulates the user against shock. The 525DEPS meets OSHA standards for electrical safety, which a private third party individually tests and verifies. Considering the function of the far-reaching pole saw, this type of protection against power lines seems incredibly helpful for utility workers and arborists.
Husqvarna has designed the MADSAW for use in a bucket, in a tree, or on the ground. Two included fiberglass shaft dielectric lengths (9-foot and 12.5-foot) make it easier for operators to get the saw up into hard-to-reach areas while keeping themselves further away from the strike zone and line of fire. We also love the rear handle for better control and reach.
These fiberglass dielectric sections also easily disconnect from the cutting head and power head to store away easily. Tool-free aluminum couplers make this easy.
The gas-powered 525DEPS features Husqvarna’s 525 powerhead, a 25cc 2-stroke engine that provides 1.34hp and the brand’s own X-Torq tech. Coupled with the engine’s performance, the Husqvarna MADSAW’s reach, feature set, and dielectric protection make for a capable pole saw that keeps operators safe and productive.
The 12-inch bar and X-cut chain should provide plenty of capacity for even larger branches. You even get a handy storage bag to keep all the parts together.
This might be the most innovative pole saw to hit the market since the invention of the first battery-powered model. The fact that each Husqvarna MADSAW is individually tested to meet the OSHA 1910.269 standard speaks volumes. Every Pro who works around 36,000V or lower electrical lines should have one of these on their truck. Period. This changes things when the former solutions were primarily hydraulic or manual.
It also looks like a great solution for storm cleanup—something we have some knowledge of here in Florida! Designed for on-the-ground, in-bucket, and in-tree use, we think this might be one of the most exciting things to hit the industry in a long time.
